Maine REALTORS® Help Demystify Home Buying

By HOM Editorial Team
July 2015

Buying a home can be an intimidating process. A home is the most expensive purchase most people will ever make. The process is complicated, with stacks of papers to read and sign, and rules to follow at every step.

To help make the process of buying a home navigable and less intimidating, the Maine Association of REALTORS® is reaching out to consumers through the Internet and social media. The Association is providing consumers with a variety of tools to make the purchase of a home stress-free, or at least less stressful. On the Association’s website, consumers can find many helpful resources. There are tools to help find a REALTOR®, monthly statistics on home sales, information on credit scoring, and information on purchasing home insurance.

A recent addition to the website is a 10-step guide to home ownership.

According to Megan Sanborn, the Association’s government affairs and communications manager, the guide is the result of careful consideration by a committee of REALTORS® regarding the important points potential homebuyers need to consider in the home-buying process. The guide helps the consumer consider the costs of buying a home, including closing costs, insurance and shopping for a mortgage.

In short, the Maine Association of REALTORS® is demystifying the home-buying process by educating the consumer.
